Konstantin Fedorovich Artemyev turned 70 on 13 May 1984. An international first-category referee, he chaired the jury at the Spartakiads of 1959, 1963 and 1967, the USSR Championships of 1958, 1969 and 1976 and the Friendship Prize meets of 1961–67, and refereed at five Olympics. He headed the all-Union refereeing board in 1960–70 and co-wrote with A. I. Falameev Organisation and Refereeing of Weightlifting Competitions (1972).

He chaired the RSFSR federation in 1960–69 and the trade-union societies' federation from 1970, and has been USSR federation deputy chairman since 1963. In 1969–73 he sat on the EWF technical committee and led the Sports Committee's weightlifting department. In 1936 he set a USSR record of 60 kg in the right-hand snatch at 56 kg. Since 1973 he has coached rural sports societies. Party member since 1944, war veteran, holder of the Order of the Red Star and the IWF large gold medal.
